Carrying beyond Florida
FDACS lists these reciprocity states (FDACS reciprocity list): Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Some honor Florida licenses only for Florida residents (Colorado, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina), and many allow handguns only. Check the footnotes and the FDACS reciprocity page before every trip.
Nonresidents
Florida licenses are available to U.S. residents, not just Floridians (s. 790.06(2)(a)). Visiting nonresidents 21+ (servicemembers and honorably discharged veterans excepted) may carry in Florida if they meet the eligibility criteria or carry a valid license from their home state, and follow the same laws as residents (s. 790.015). A new Florida resident's out-of-state license is honored for 90 days.
Questions folks ask
Can a non-Floridian get a Florida license?
Yes. U.S. residents who meet s. 790.06 criteria may apply, but some reciprocity states honor Florida licenses only for Florida residents.
